If you have vinyl or metal flanged windows for instance you can install drip cap flashing 4 the home depot over the window itself or over the top trim piece that you install. Use an old rag to remove any dirt or debris that may be there. Consult the manufacturer s instructions for the recommended technique for your windows. Attach the flashing tape above the window and then slip the drip cap into the siding and attach to the tape.

Secure cap to siding next secure the drip cap to your siding using galvanized nails. Nail the cap over the vertical. Here the slope away from the wall is preserved and the siding is kept up off the top of the flashing by at least 3 8 in. A well designed cap flashing has to be installed properly.

Gap between the flashing and bottom of the siding so water won t wick. Cut a top cap to meet the flanges of the vertical pieces. Then when it comes to installing the siding i make sure to leave at least 3 8 in. Then snip the bottom of the channel 1 2 in.

Just about the window apply flashing tape then slide the drip cap against the flashing tape and under the siding above it.
