Work across the vinyl flooring in large swaths of one color and sponge on a lighter or darker shade of the paint color around the edges of each square. As long as there are not structural cracks in the concrete floor you can install porcelain tile over it. The ideal method for installing peel and stick vinyl tiles over concrete is to first lay plywood over the concrete. Although the flooring comes in a variety of forms planks are installable with a minimal amount of tools and measuring.

Take the vinyl tiles and place them in the center of the room where the lines bisect. You can keep installing the tiles working from the center towards the walls. Cover the concrete with 1 4 inch plywood and secure it with 1 1 4 inch underlayment nails. Installing a vinyl tile or vinyl plank floor is easier than installing sheet vinyl and any damage to the floor can be repaired easily simply by replacing a tile or two.

Tile cannot be attached directly to painted concrete as the thin set will not adhere well to the paint. The hardest part of the job is often cleaning and leveling the concrete base.

You need to prepare by removing the paint and scarifying the surface to open up the pores of the concrete. Buying a large roll of vinyl gets you a new floor for a very affordable price. The process for installing the tiles is the same whether the tile is set on a floor or a wall. You want water to readily absorb into it.
